Hubris, known in Japan as Loud (ラウド Raudo?), was one of Murdock’s four cyborg dogs. Like the other three, Fury, Glory, and Valor, he was named after a martial characteristic. The four served as Murdock’s means of tracking and bringing down the bounties he targeted, and Murdock could communicate with them without speaking via a cyborg implant in his chin.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Hubris was a fair coloured cyborg dog modeled along the lines of a mastiff. An illustration by Yukito Kishiro for the 2003 Ultra Jump calendar depicts him as being brown.[1] In Gunnm: Martian Memory he is light brown.

Abilities[edit | edit source]

All of Murdock's dogs functioned like their real world counterparts and worked well together, making them deadly as a pack.

Plot[edit | edit source]

Battle Angel Alita[edit | edit source]

Murdock was tracking Zapan with his dogs when he came across two of his murder victims, Tank Man and an unnamed hunter-warrior. When the other hunter-warriors got defensive about Murdock intruding onto their turf, Glory and Hubris growled at them threateningly. After Zapan was cornered by Murdock in the sewers, Alita gave him a chance to attack her. When he could not and collapsed in terror, the dogs tore him to pieces.

Hubris' death in Battle 26.

Zapan came close to killing Master when he visited Bar New Kansas after he gained control of the Berserker Body, but was stopped by Murdock. After assigning Fury to protect Koyomi and Shumira, Murdock attacked Zapan with Glory, Hubris, and Valor. However the Demon Dog, which Zapan formed out of plasma, was too fast for them and Hubris was slammed into a wall.

Last Order[edit | edit source]

Hubris was one of the many characters from Alita's past shown when Melchizedek, appearing as a giant avatar Arthur Farrell, reached out to her consciousness after her ego was shattered and her Imaginos Body dissolved following Super Nova's Seca attack.[2]

Other appearances[edit | edit source]

Hubris appears in Gunnm: Martian Memory. He tends to be posted on guard duty by Murdock alongside Glory.
